The Japan Minimum Wage Checker displays the latest regional minimum wages for all 47 Japanese prefectures (FY2025) and lets you instantly verify whether a job's hourly wage meets the legal minimum.
It also converts the minimum wage to monthly and annual salary estimates, and shows year-on-year changes. All data is embedded in JavaScript — no server calls required.

Glossary
- Minimum Wage
- The lowest hourly pay employers are legally required to pay. Set by law and enforced by prefectural labor bureaus.
- Regional Minimum Wage
- The minimum wage applicable to all industries in a specific prefecture. Revised annually, usually in October.
- Industry-Specific Minimum Wage
- A higher minimum wage applicable to specific industries within a prefecture, set separately from the regional rate.
- Weighted National Average
- The national average minimum wage weighted by the number of workers in each prefecture. FY2025: approx. ¥1,055.
- Effective Date
- The date on which new minimum wage rates take effect. Typically around October 1 each year, varying by prefecture.
- Gross Wage
- Total wages before tax deductions. The minimum wage applies to the gross hourly rate.

- Data reflects the latest FY2025 revised minimum wages (valid until October 2026). We update the data after each annual revision.
- Q.Is any data sent to a server?
- No. All calculations are done locally in your browser.
- Q.Does it cover industry-specific minimum wages?
- Not currently. Only regional (prefectural) minimum wages are included. For industry-specific rates, check the MHLW website.
- Q.How do I check compliance for a monthly salary?
- Divide the monthly salary by the number of contracted monthly working hours (e.g., ¥220,000 ÷ 176h = ¥1,250/h) and compare to the minimum.
- Q.Are overtime wages included in the comparison?
- No. The minimum wage is compared against the base hourly rate only, excluding overtime premiums.
- Q.When is the data updated?
- Minimum wages are revised every October. This tool will be updated promptly after each revision.
