To measure fuel economy

- Fuel Economy
- A measure of how far a vehicle can travel per unit of fuel, or the volume of fuel needed to cover a standard distance. Expressed commonly as miles per gallon (MPG) or liters per 100 kilometers (L/100km).
- Full-Tank Method
- A standard manual procedure where actual fuel consumption is measured by tracking trip mileage between two full fill-ups and dividing distance by volume added, subject to minor pump shutoff variances.
- L/100km
- The metric volume of fuel consumed to travel 100 kilometers. A lower numerical value indicates lower fuel consumption and higher efficiency.
- MPG (Miles Per Gallon)
- The imperial/customary distance traveled per gallon of fuel. US liquid gallons (approx. 3.785 L) and UK Imperial gallons (approx. 4.546 L) differ in volume, resulting in different MPG values.
- Trip Meter
- An auxiliary odometer on a vehicle's dashboard that can be reset to zero at any time to record distances for individual journeys or between fuel stops.
- Cost Per Unit Distance

- This tool doubles the unrounded fractional one-way cost before rounding to the smallest currency unit. Doubling an already-rounded one-way figure can introduce small rounding discrepancies, whereas our calculation maintains trip-level precision.
- Q. How do I measure fuel economy using the full-tank method?
- Fill your tank completely and reset your trip meter to zero. Drive your normal routes, then return to the station and fill up to the same level (auto-shutoff). Divide the miles or kilometers driven by the fuel added. Note that slight differences in nozzle shutoff points can cause minor measurement variations, making this a practical estimate rather than an absolute figure.
- Q. How can I split gas money with passengers?
