Glossary
- Text-to-Speech
- Technology that converts written text into spoken audio. This tool uses the Web Speech API to read text aloud directly in the browser.
- Web Speech API
- A browser-native API that enables speech recognition and synthesis without sending data to an external server.
- Speech Rate
- A parameter controlling how fast the text is read aloud. Slower rates improve comprehension; faster rates let you consume content quickly.
- Pitch
- A setting that controls the frequency of the synthesized voice. Higher values produce a higher-pitched voice; lower values produce a deeper tone.
- Voice Engine
- The software responsible for converting text to audio. Available voices vary by operating system and browser, supporting different languages and accents.
- Pause / Resume
- Controls that let you stop speech mid-sentence and continue from the same point, useful when reading long documents.
- Volume
- A parameter controlling the loudness of the synthesized speech, adjustable from 0 (silent) to 1 (maximum volume).
