How to Create Fair Teams
Randomly dividing people often results in unbalanced teams. Here are some tips on how to use tools to create perfectly balanced groups.
1. Quantify Skill Levels
Rate each participant's skill level on a scale (e.g., 1 to 5). By assigning a rating to everyone, the generator can automatically distribute players so the total skill score of each team is equal.
2. Set 'Do Not Pair' Rules
To prevent people who don't get along from being on the same team, or to ensure people with the same roles (like two goalies) are separated, set up 'NG Pairs'. This prevents structural imbalances.
3. Lock Essential Pairs
If a beginner needs to be paired with a mentor, lock them together. The tool will treat them as a single unit and distribute the remaining players evenly around them.
💡 Psychological Safety in Team Building
Balancing skills is important, but creating an environment where members can freely share their opinions (psychological safety) is just as crucial. If many people are meeting for the first time, icebreakers can help.
Balancing leaders and supporters is also key to success. After using the tool to randomly divide teams, making minor manual adjustments can result in fairer, more satisfying teams.
