how to,

How to Convert Photo to Sketch

STEP 1

Upload an Image

Click the "Select Image" button at the top of the screen, or drag and drop an image file directly into the dotted frame to load the photo you want to convert. On smartphones, you can select directly from your photo library.

STEP 2

Adjust Sketch Texture

Once the image is loaded, it will be automatically converted to a sketch style and displayed. By moving the "Line Thickness (Blur)" and "Contrast (Intensity)" sliders below the preview image, you can fine-tune the pencil touch and line clarity to your liking. You can also compare it with the original photo by pressing the "Compare with Original" button.

STEP 3

Save the Sketch Image

Once you're satisfied with your sketch image, click the "Save Sketch Image" button. It will be downloaded to your device as a high-quality PNG image, which you can use as a social media icon or print out as a coloring page.

Glossary

Sketch (Line Art) Conversion
An image processing technique that extracts the outlines of a photo and creates a monochrome sketch-like image as if drawn by hand with a pencil or pen.
Grayscale
An image that represents only the brightness (light and dark) from white to black, with color information removed from the image. Used as the first step in sketch conversion.
Invert (Negative/Positive Inversion)
The process of reversing the brightness and colors of an image. White areas become black, and black areas become white.
Gaussian Blur
An effect that smoothly blurs an image. In this tool, by changing the strength of this blur (Radius), you control the thickness and delicacy of the sketch lines.
Color Dodge
One of the blend modes for combining two images. It is used as the core algorithm to cleanly extract only the outlines (sketch style) from a photo by brightening the underlying image and blending it with the overlying image.
Canvas API
A web standard technology for dynamically drawing and processing shapes and images using JavaScript on a browser. It powers the high-speed image processing of this tool.
Local Processing
A processing method that is completed entirely using the computing power of the user's device without sending the user's images to servers on the internet. There is no risk of information leakage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.Is it safe to upload photos of people's faces?
Yes, it is completely safe. This tool uses 'local processing', meaning the uploaded image data is never sent to our servers. Everything is processed entirely within your smartphone or PC's browser, so you can use it without worrying about privacy leaks.
Q.What kind of photos are best suited for sketch conversion?
Photos with clear contrast between the subject and background, and photos with distinct outlines (e.g., people, buildings, or cars taken in bright places) tend to produce more beautiful sketch-like results. For photos that are too dark or noisy, try adjusting the intensity slider.
Q.Can I use the created images for social media icons or commercial design?
Yes, no problem. The copyright of the sketch images created with this tool belongs to the right holder of the original image. We do not claim copyright or add watermarks, so feel free to use them within the terms of use of the original image.
Q.I can't see much change when I move the 'Line Thickness' slider.
The effect of 'Line Thickness (Blur)' varies depending on the resolution (size) of the photo. For photos with a very large number of pixels, setting the slider value slightly higher will emphasize the pencil touch and line art look.
Q.Can you make color sketch styles (colored line art)?
In the current version, we specialize in monochrome (black and white) conversion like pencil sketches. We are considering adding color features like watercolor or colored pencil styles in the future.
