Glossary
- Collage
- A composition that combines multiple images into a single image. Collages are widely used on social media, in photo books, and in portfolios to tell a visual story with several photos at once.
- Grid Layout
- A design technique that arranges images in a structured grid of rows and columns. Grid layouts create visual balance and consistency, making them ideal for collages and photo galleries.
- Template
- A predefined layout structure. This tool provides six templates for 2 to 9 images, covering horizontal splits, vertical splits, and square grids, so you can pick the one that suits your content.
- Cover Fit
- A rendering method that scales and crops an image so it fills its cell completely without any empty space. The shorter side of the image is used as the reference, and the excess is cropped from the edges while keeping the center visible.
- Aspect Ratio
- The proportional relationship between the width and height of an image. Common ratios include 1:1 (square), 16:9 (widescreen), and 4:3 (standard). Cover fit uses the cell's aspect ratio as the target when cropping.
- Background Color
- The color displayed in the gaps between image cells and around the edges of the canvas. White is the default, but any color can be set using the color picker. A dark background can give a sleek, modern look.
- Gap
- The spacing between image cells in pixels. A gap of 0 places images flush against each other. Increasing the gap creates visible separation, which works well with a colored background to frame each photo distinctly.
- Border Radius
- The degree of rounding applied to the corners of each image cell. A value of 0 produces sharp corners, while higher values create rounded corners. Implemented using the Canvas API's roundRect() with an arcTo() fallback.
- PNG Format
- A lossless image format that supports transparency. PNG preserves every pixel without quality loss, making it suitable for illustrations and logos. Choose PNG when color accuracy is more important than file size.
- JPEG Format
- A lossy compression format optimized for photographs. Adjusting the quality slider lets you balance file size against visual fidelity. JPEG is ideal for sharing photos on social media where smaller file sizes are preferred.
FAQ
- Q.How many images can I use?
- Templates support up to 9 images. The largest template is a 3×3 grid. Choose the template that matches the number of photos you want to combine.
- Q.Can I change the order of images?
- Yes. Drag and drop the thumbnails in the image list to reorder them. The canvas preview updates instantly to reflect the new order.
- Q.Are my images uploaded to a server?
- Never. All processing is done locally in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images never leave your device.
- Q.Can I change the output size?
- Yes, you can set any width and height in pixels. The maximum supported size is 4096×4096 px.
- Q.Can I change the background color?
- Yes. Use the color picker to set any background color. The default is white (#ffffff).
- Q.What happens when an image does not fit the cell?
- The tool uses cover-fit, automatically cropping and scaling the image to fill the cell. The center of the image is prioritized.
- Q.Can I replace a single image?
- Yes. Each thumbnail has a replace button. Clicking it lets you choose a new image for that slot while keeping the rest unchanged.
- Q.Does it work on smartphones?
- Yes. The layout is responsive and supports touch input. Tested on iOS Safari and Android Chrome.
- Q.Can I adjust the gap between images?
- Yes. Use the slider to set a gap from 0 to 40 px. A gap of 0 removes all spacing between cells.
- Q.Can I round the corners of each image cell?
- Yes. The border radius slider lets you set a value from 0 (sharp corners) to 30 px (rounded corners).
