Glossary
- Unicode
- The international standard for encoding all characters worldwide. Fancy text uses the "Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols" block.
- Code Point
- A number assigned to each character in Unicode. Example: A = U+0041, 𝐀 = U+1D400.
- Surrogate Pair
- A mechanism in UTF-16 to represent characters above U+FFFF using two code units. Most fancy characters fall in this range, requiring special handling in JavaScript.
- Combining Character
- A modifier character that overlays the preceding character. Used to add strikethrough (U+0336) or underline (U+0332) to any letter.
- Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols
- A Unicode block (U+1D400–U+1D7FF) originally for math notation containing bold, italic, fraktur, and script variants widely repurposed for social media decoration.
- Fullwidth Characters
- Characters twice as wide as ASCII equivalents, located at U+FF01–U+FF5E. Used in wide text conversion.
- Fraktur / Blackletter
- A calligraphic typeface originating in medieval Germany. Often used for gothic or stylistic decoration.
- Small Caps
- A typographic style where lowercase letters are replaced by smaller uppercase letter forms, spread across various Unicode blocks.
- Clipboard API
- A Web API allowing JavaScript to write text or images to the system clipboard via navigator.clipboard.writeText().
- Mojibake
- Garbled text caused by encoding mismatch. Some fancy characters may appear as □ on older devices or fonts.
FAQ
- Q.Why are some characters not converted?
- Only A-Z, a-z and 0-9 are converted. Japanese, emoji, and symbols pass through unchanged.
- Q.Can I create fancy Japanese text?
- The current Unicode standard does not define decorative variants of hiragana, katakana, or kanji, so Japanese text passes through unchanged.
- Q.Why does the text look broken on some devices?
- Older devices or fonts may not support Mathematical Unicode characters. Latest iOS, Android, Windows 10+, and macOS generally display them correctly.
- Q.Are the results images?
- No. Results are plain Unicode text, which can be copied, searched, and read aloud by screen readers.
- Q.Is my text sent to a server?
- No. All processing is done locally in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing is transmitted externally.
- Q.Is there a usage limit?

- Q.Does strikethrough apply to every character?
- Yes. A Unicode combining character is appended to each character individually, so it applies to the entire string evenly.

- Unicode characters are not copyrighted, so there are no restrictions on using the conversion results.
