About Mouse Tester
The Mouse Tester is a free diagnostic tool that allows you to easily verify if all your mouse buttons (left-click, right-click, scroll wheel, and side buttons) are functioning properly right in your browser.
No software installation or special configurations are required. Just by opening this page, you can instantly test your mouse's responsiveness and check for any hardware failures or malfunctions like double-clicking issues (chattering). All processing is done locally on your device, meaning your input data is never sent to any external server, ensuring complete safety and privacy.
How to Use
Click in the test area
Click each button of your mouse inside the test area or on the mouse illustration. You can test left, right, and middle clicks here.
Check wheel and side buttons
Scroll the mouse wheel up and down, and press the side buttons (forward/back) to see if the corresponding parts on the screen highlight correctly.
Double-clicks and history check
Try double-clicking in the dedicated area. Also, review the event log at the bottom of the screen to identify any "chattering" (multiple reactions from a single click) in detail.
Glossary
- Left Click / Right Click
- The fundamental buttons for computer operation. The left button is primarily used for selecting and executing, while the right button is used to invoke context menus (operation options).
- Center Button (Middle Click)
- A click generated by pressing down on the mouse wheel. It's often used in browsers to open links in new tabs or to lock the screen scroll.
- Side Buttons
- Additional buttons located on the side of the mouse. They are typically assigned to browser "Back" and "Forward" functions to improve workflow efficiency.
- Wheel (Scroll)
- A rotary component for moving the screen vertically. This tool accurately detects the rotation direction (up/down) to verify its functionality.
- Chattering (Double-Click Issue)
- A hardware malfunction caused by switch degradation, where a single click registers as a double-click, or dragging actions are unexpectedly interrupted.
- Event Log
- The operation history displayed at the bottom of the tool. It records which buttons were pressed and in what order, helping you pinpoint sensor abnormalities accurately.
FAQ
- Q.Is my click data or operation history sent to a server?
- No, it is not sent. All testing processes are completed within your browser (local environment), and no data is transmitted externally, ensuring your privacy is fully protected.
- Q.Why aren't the side buttons responding?
- Depending on your browser or OS settings, side button signals may not be transmitted to the tool. Especially if you are using a mouse with proprietary driver software, check if the settings are assigned to browser navigation (Back/Forward).
- Q.The context menu doesn't appear when I right-click.
- To ensure accurate testing, we suppress the default right-click menu (context menu) within the test area. This is expected behavior.
- Q.How should I check for double-clicking issues (chattering)?
- Lightly click the button once and check the event log. If the log registers two or more consecutive clicks for a single press, it's highly likely that your mouse switch has degraded and is experiencing chattering.
- Q.Can I test my mouse on a smartphone?
- While you can test tap actions on a smartphone, mouse-specific functions like right-clicks, scroll wheels, and side buttons cannot be tested. We recommend using a desktop environment for full functionality.
- Q.Where can I test the double-click function?
- Please use the dedicated "Double-click here to test" area provided on the screen. If it accurately registers when you click twice quickly, your system's double-click speed setting matches your mouse's behavior.
Use Cases
When Buying a New Mouse
Useful for immediately verifying if a newly purchased mouse has any initial defects and ensuring all buttons respond correctly according to its specifications.
When Suspecting Chattering
If you experience anomalies like "unintended double-clicking" or "interrupted dragging," use this to determine whether the issue is related to hardware lifespan or software glitches.
Testing Pre-owned Devices
Ideal for running a comprehensive check on second-hand mice or those kept in long-term storage to see if sensors or switches have deteriorated before regular use.
Pre-gaming Environment Check
Verify that your gaming mouse's side buttons and scroll wheel respond flawlessly before playing PC games (like FPS or MMOs) that demand precise clicking actions.
